Malayalam Film By Debutant Filmmakers Wins Hearts At Marche Du Film

May 31, 2025 – Cannes, France: The Malayalam feature film Behind the Moon (Yamalokham), directed and produced by debut filmmaker Hardeep Singh and co-produced by actor Priyanshi Mane under the banner of Grandma Motion Pictures, has garnered widespread attention following its world premiere at the esteemed Cannes Film Festival 2025. The film’s trailer, unveiled at the Bharat Pavilion, received enthusiastic acclaim from international media outlets and the global film community alike.

Featuring a compelling ensemble cast including Naga Mahesh, Chirayath Lona Jolly, Hardeep Singh, Priyanshi Mane, Ramesh, and Ravindran ER, the film has been lauded for its powerful performances and emotional depth.

Hardeep Singh, who also penned the screenplay, reflected on the journey:

“Making a film is a tedious job, and making your first film is like breaking a mountain with a hammer. But what’s important is to take the first step and walk towards your dreams.”

Echoing his thoughts, co-producer and lead actor Priyanhsi Mane added:

“It wasn’t easy to make this project. We faced challenges finding producers, so we decided to take matters into our own hands. The journey was a rollercoaster ride, but it taught us valuable lessons as new filmmakers.”

The decision to make the film in Malayalam was a deliberate artistic choice. Hardeep elaborated that the story demanded a distinct narrative style.

“I believe Malayalam, Marathi, and Bengali cinema prioritize content-driven storytelling and are more receptive to fresh ideas and concepts. A creative person always wants a thoughtful audience.”

Behind the Moon is now set to travel to various international film festivals before its release in India. Its success at Cannes stands as a powerful testament to the resilience and passion of its creators—an inspiring story of new voices carving a space in global cinema.
